All the BBQ your heart desires…

This weekend we had gorgeous weather and Mark and I took advantage of that. Friday night we watched “Into the Wild” with some friends of ours and it was a very interesting movie. You can defiantly get something out of it. The life this guy set out to lead for a specific part of his life was incrediable. A lot of people I know have read the book and they say it’s a really good read. I would defiantly suggest watching the movie. Very interesting.

Saturday we went to Rock n’ Ribs. For those of you who don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, every year many organizations get together and host a BBQ competition. All the procedes got to a couple different children organizations here in Springfield. Friday night they do a VIP night where all the competitors come in a cook for specific people. Saturday the open it up to the public and for $5-$7 you get in and get to sample all of the cooks BBQ. There are generally about 60 booths and each of them cook pulled pork and brisket. Needless to say by the time you get around to about half of the booths you are stuffed! It’s amazing how quickly you can fill up with the meat shots (Kyle, Mark’s cousin, gave them that name). Mark knew someone from Toastmasters who worked for one of the children’s organizations and had asked us if we wanted to volunteer so Mark and I helped at the main gate in the morning and then met up with Kyle, Amy, Megan (Kyle’s cousin), Carmen (Megan’s roommate), and Adrian (Kyle & Amy’s daughter). They are getting ready to move so it was nice to spend some time with them before they offically leave town. Kyle said he’s going to try and make sure he gets a work trip scheduled next year so that he can come and attend Rock n’ Ribs ‘09. Mark and I got sun burnt on our necks and my started to peel yesterday. It’s always that first sunny day of spring that gets ya.

Sunday we enjoyed more of the nice weather to go see the Springfield Cardinals. Mark Mulder was pitching a rehab game in Springfield so it was a nice day to go see a major leaguer. It was a great game and the Cardinals won, you couldn’t have asked for much better. I was kind of hesitant about baseball season being here given that my football seemed fly by, but while we were at the game I realized that I was happy to have it here. It really gives Mark and I a chance to get out and enjoy sports together at an affordable price. That is the down side to football, less games and more expensive tickets.

Hope everyone had as an enjoyable weekend as we did. Don’t forget World Malaria Day this Friday!! $10 for one net!
